Review of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport

Trucks mean business. Rarely will you come across a pickup truck driver that owns a truck for nothing more than simple than the fun of driving it. There’s work to get done, and trucks get it done right the first time, every time.

The Toyota Tacoma has long been a staple in the pickup truck community. While shunned in its early years due to its import status, things have taken a turn over the last decade. The Toyota Tacoma is not only a major contributor to the trucking world, but it's often been rated higher than its competition. It holds its own against trucks including the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and Dodge Ram, just to name a few. Its competition is as stiff as its chassis, yet it always finds a way to be considered one of the best trucks available. The TRD Sport has taken Toyota Tacoma’s already-stellar reputation and made it a nearly unapproachable bar to exceed, let alone meet. Though smaller than its much bigger sibling, the Tundra, the Tacoma has delivered smiles across customers’ faces for a longer period of time.

2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport Review

The TRD Sport is regarded as a great off-roader, but its on-road handling is what makes it a great choice of a truck to own. It has stiffer suspension qualities which make it more responsive on asphalt, also thanks in part to 17-inch wheels and tires. The TRD Sport also features a design that improves aerodynamics, thus resulting in a much better fuel economy.

A Tacoma truck is expected to be chock full of goodies, and the TRD Sport doesn’t disappoint. From the front bumper to the rear bumper, there’s plenty to like about this truck from the outside. It includes a color-keyed bumper, five black oval tube steps, active cruise control, alloy wheels, a bed extender, compass, engine immobilizer, custom exhaust tip, illuminated interior entry lights, LED daytime running lamps, wide-angle front fog lamps, remote keyless entry, Smart Key with Push Button Start, and turn signal indicator mirrors.

The interior includes power windows, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, anti-whiplash front head restraints, split-folding rear seat, steering wheel mounted audio controls, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, speed-sensing steering, and a trip computer. What’s the point of owning a vehicle without a great audio system? The TRD Sport features six speakers, AM/FM radio plus SiriusXM, Entune Premium Radio system including Navigation, and an App suite.

A used Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport is a great vehicle to own and one that should become your garage’s companion. You can take on the outdoor trails and still own the asphalt afterward. While not on the same level of fame as the Ford F-150 or Chevrolet Silverado, the 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport has carved out a nice spot of its own with truck enthusiasts. There’s no doubt that in a few years the TRD Sport will be on the same level of appreciation as the F-150 and Silverado.
